Connecticut Releases 2017 Form CT-1096 and Changes Due Date to January 31

Connecticut has released the 2017 Form CT-1096, Connecticut Annual Summary and Transmittal of Information Returns. There are no changes to the form itself, but Form CT-1096 is now due on January 31, 2018 regardless of whether the filer is filing electronically or by paper. Utah Updates Publication 58, Interest and Penalties

Utah's Department of Revenue recently published a 2017 version of Publication 58, which addresses Utah interest and penalties.  The interest rate for taxes and fees will continue to hold at 3% for 2018.  There have been no changes to any penalties.

IRS Releases Updated Instructions for Forms 3921 and 3922

The IRS recently updated the Instructions for Forms 3921 and 3922. The instructions state that filers may truncate a recipient's TIN on payee statements. However, truncation is not allowed on any documents the filer files with the IRS. The payer's TIN may not be truncated on any form.

Senator Introduces Bill to Repeal Individual Mandate for Health Insurance

U.S. Senator Steve Daines (R-MT) has introduced Senate Bill 1898, the “Repeal and Refund Act,” a bill that seeks to retroactively repeal the individual mandate for health insurance. Through this bill, Americans who paid penalties for not having insurance coverage would be refunded. Currently, Senate Bill 1898 is still in committee and has no cosponsors.
