The United Kingdom’s HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) and the Department for Business & Trade have launched their highly anticipated public consultation on promoting electronic invoicing across UK businesses and the public sector. This consultation marks a significant move toward modernizing business practices and enhancing digital transformation in the country’s economy.
The purpose of this consultation is to gather feedback on the policy design for the widespread adoption of e-invoicing, as well as to explore potential alternatives before progressing to specific proposals for a reform. As the UK government considers its approach to implementing e-invoicing, they welcome the views of all stakeholders – ranging from businesses of all sizes, interest groups, and representative bodies to individuals and industry leaders.
The consultation is structured around a survey with 34 questions that range from the impact of e-invoicing on general business operations to specific policy aspects, such as potential benefits, challenges, and technological considerations.
The consultation will remain open for 12 weeks, beginning on 13 February 2025 and concluding on 7 May 2025. Interested stakeholders can participate by filing out the consultation via an online form or emailing their answers to einvoicingconsultation@hmrc.gov.uk until the end of the consultation period.
