Christian van der Valk, Sovos vice president of strategy, will speak at the CIAT/IOTA Tax Summit 2018 in Portugal. The show will take place in Lisbon Oct. 24-26.
The Tax Summit is a joint effort among the Inter-American Center of Tax Administrations (CIAT), the Inter European Organization of Tax Administrations (IOTA) and the Portuguese Tax and Customs Authority (AT). The show will focus on technology’s impact on global taxation systems. The organizations invited van der Valk to be one of a small number of expert speakers.
The CIAT supports the efforts of national governments by promoting the evolution, social acceptance and institutional strengthening of tax administrations, encouraging international cooperation and the exchange of experiences and best practices. Founded in 1967, CIAT currently has 42 member countries and associate member countries from four continents: 32 countries of the Americas, 5 European countries, 4 African countries and 1 Asian country.
IOTA is a non-profit intergovernmental organization that provides its members a platform for exchanging experiences and best practices on important issues and current developments concerning practical aspects of tax administration. IOTA’s main activity is organizing workshops and offering participants from various member tax administrations the opportunity to share their views and experiences and develop best practices with the aim of improving its members’ tax administrations. IOTA also delivers practical and applicable publications for its members and promotes cooperation both between its members as well as with other international and regional organizations.
The AT is the Portuguese tax authority, essentially the equivalent of the IRS in the US.
