Maine Revenue Services has made available the draft versions of the 2018 MEETRS File Formatting Specifications for Electronic Transmittal of Quarterly Income Tax Withholding. There are sets of specifications for both original filings and amended filings – which will become effective the first quarter of 2018. There are certain revisions to the specifications of which filers should take note:

  • The Maine Employers Electronic Tax Reporting System (MEETRS) will support the filing of amended withholding returns, beginning in 2018. Amended returns should conform to the specifications separately designated for amended filings.
  • Form 941A-ME (for amended returns) has been eliminated and incorporated into Form 941-ME.
  • The withholding file layout contains changes to the Employer ‘E’ Record and Total ‘T’ Record, effective at the beginning of the first quarter 2018. The changes are intended to incorporate the reporting of withholding waivers and account closures.
