Let’s Face it, Unclaimed Property Filing is No Fun

We all know it, but few people express this in official circles. Unclaimed property filing is no fun. It isn’t glamorous or exciting. It is often downright frustrating. If you feel this way, just know that you are not alone.
Many companies assign this task to the person with the least seniority. This person usually knows nothing about unclaimed property and they may not have the computer skills needed to navigate all the new technology that can make unclaimed property filing smoother.
If this person is you, don’t panic. No one is going to judge you if you have to ask a question of the states or your software vendor. That’s why we are here. I am on my 13th year of supporting unclaimed property filers. It’s easier for me because I’ve seen almost every issue or question that could come up, but I still dread each October. It’s the busiest month of the year.
The states and software vendors make sure they have extra people on hand to help answer questions during this busy time. There’s no reason to try to struggle through your fall reporting all alone. If you feel stuck and don’t know which way to go, reach out for assistance.
If you don’t know which way to turn for assistance, please leave a comment here and I will answer your questions or give you contact information for someone who can.
I won’t insult you by wishing you ‘Happy Filing’. That’s a myth. I do wish you a smooth and relatively painless filing. We can do this!
