Sweden: Government Launches Investigation into ViDA

Kelly Muniz
February 20, 2026

Sweden has taken first steps toward implementing the VAT in the Digital Age (ViDA) package, adopted by the EU Council in March 2025. The Swedish Government has issued a committee directive (Dir. 2026:9) commissioning a special investigator to assess how the ViDA rules should be transposed into national law.

The investigation is scheduled to present its findings by 30 November 2027. This will be followed by consultation periods and legislative drafting before any legislation can be adopted by parliament. It is therefore unlikely that Sweden will be ViDA-ready well in advance of the 2030 deadline.
