The Polish Ministry of Finance (MoF) has published documentation for a new publicly accessible API (Application Programming Interface) called KSeF Latarnia (“KSeF Lighthouse”), designed to provide real-time information on KSeF system availability.
What is the KSeF Latarnia?
Latarnia is a new component of the KSeF infrastructure that provides information about planned maintenance windows, standard KSeF failure, and total KSeF failure, in accordance with Article 106ne of the Polish VAT Act. The API is publicly accessible, requires no authentication, and allows software to programmatically monitor KSeF status.
This serves as an additional channel alongside the Ministry’s existing practice of publishing official announcements on the government’s public information bulletin website and other media outlets, in the case of a total failure.
What does this mean for taxpayers?
Taxpayers and software providers can integrate with the Latarnia API to receive automated notifications about KSeF availability. This is relevant for determining when certain offline invoicing modes are permitted under Polish VAT law, which take effect 1 February 2026.
The MoF will continue to publish information about planned maintenance and failures via existing channels, including the government’s public information bulletin website.
