Oman: Selection Criteria for First 100 E-Invoicing Taxpayers Released

August 20, 2025

The Tax Authority of Oman (OTA) has announced the criteria for selecting the first 100 companies to participate in its Electronic Invoicing initiative. Companies will be selected based on business size and transaction volume, economic sector diversity, technical readiness, tax compliance history, willingness to support the experimental phase, and geographic distribution across Oman.

No deadlines have been specified for when the selection process will begin or when implementation will be required. This development follows Oman’s introduction of VAT in 2021 and the May 2025 agreement with Omantel to design and implement e-invoicing infrastructure. The system is expected to follow a phased rollout approach with full implementation projected for 2028.

Businesses operating in Oman should monitor official communications and assess their technical readiness as the Tax Authority is expected to release more detailed implementation plans in the coming months.
