Virginia Exempts Food for Home Consumption and Essential Personal Hygiene Products

The state of Virginia has exempted food for human consumption and essential personal hygiene products from state sales tax. Previously, products fitting these descriptions were subject to a reduced rate of 1.5%. Beginning on January 1, 2023, these products will be exempt from state sales tax, but may still be subject to a 1% local tax.
