Sales Tax Holidays Enacted as Part of Largest Tax Relief Plan in Florida’s History

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis recently signed Florida HB 7063. As part of this legislation, Florida has approved the following sales tax holidays:

  • Disaster Preparedness sales tax holidays will take place May 27 – June 9, 2023, and August 26 – September 8, 2023.
  • The Freedom Summer sales tax holiday will place May 29 – September 4, 2023.
  • Back-to-School sales tax holidays will take place July 24 – August 6, 2023, and January 1 – January 14, 2024.
  • The Tools and Equipment sales tax holiday will take place September 2 – September 8, 2023.

Florida has also approved the following long-term exemption periods:

  • Energy Star Appliances will take place from July 1, 2023 – June 30, 2024 (current exemption period in place until June 30, 2023).
  • Gas Ranges and Cooktops will take place from July 1, 2023 – June 30, 2024.

The bill permanently exempts the following items:

  • Baby/Toddlers diapers, clothing and accessories.
  • Oral Hygiene Products.
  • Firearm Safety Devices.
