Global tax software leader Sovos was recently honored by Training magazine as one of 125 companies worldwide that provide excellent employer-sponsored training and development programs. In addition, Training has recognized the Sovos First 48 onboarding program, a two-day session for new employees, for a Best Practice award. Launched globally in 2018, more than 200 employees have gone through the Sovos First 48 program, with hundreds more expected to do so in 2020.
The magazine took a variety of factors into account in compiling its Top 125, including training budget, number of training hours per employee, business-outcome measurement and how closely companies link training to business goals. This is the 20th year Training has released a Top 125 list, evaluating training programs in companies from all over the world. Other winners of this year’s honor include BNP Paribas, Mastercard, Nationwide and Walmart.
“With First 48 and its other programs, Sovos demonstrates the value of developing employees not only as they enter the organization but also as they continue on their journey with the company,” said Lorri Freifeld, Training magazine editor-in-chief. “We believe Sovos, like all of our honorees, has unlocked the value of training as being critical to driving the company forward.”
In the First 48 program, new hires spend their first two days at Sovos learning about the company, its values, business lines, culture and best practices in executive-led sessions. Training recognized the program with a Best Practice award in addition to the Top 125 honor.
“With more than 1,300 employees in 14 offices across 10 countries, Sovos has made training a priority because we need engaged, dedicated and well-supported employees in order to carry out our mission to Solve Tax for Good,” said Colleen Schlagel, chief talent officer at Sovos. “Training and development also fits perfectly with one of our core values, Be Professional. As the Top 125 honor demonstrates, we believe that providing a culture in which we encourage employees to develop their skills is critical to giving them the ability to solve problems and deliver value for our customers.”
Examples of Sovos training programs other than First 48 include LEADS, a program targeted for existing managers to grow and develop their leadership skills, as well as IMPACT, a subset of LEADS designed for individual contributors who are looking to move into a managerial role or advance their careers. Sovos also offers tactical sessions, such as cross-functional development in a program called Cloud Rotations.
Training magazine unveiled its list in November and will reveal the rankings of the 125 honorees at its annual conference next month.
Earlier this year, the Star Tribune (Minneapolis, MN) named Sovos to its annual list of Top Workplaces, a ranking based on employee satisfaction scores for companies across Minnesota. Sovos has received two “Best Places to Work” honors over the past three years, and the company is hiring candidates to fill roles in IT, sales, product development and more in its Minneapolis, Boston, Boulder, Atlanta, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, London, Stockholm and Amsterdam offices.
