On Sept. 9, the North Dakota Department of Taxation will transition its website for electronic tax information reporting from Webfile to Taxpayer Access Point (TAP). As such, all filers who have been using the old system will need to complete the conversion process before they can use TAP.
The annual returns reporting and non-payroll reporting pages will be converted closer to the deadline when more information and logistics about the update are available. Additional information on the change can be found on the department’s Converting from Webfile to Taxpayer Access Point page, which includes separate instructions for accountants or payroll providers, business owners/employers and employees.
Owners will need to obtain Owner Access to access all accounts that are associated with the Social Security number (SSN) or Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN). The department noted that when additional tax types such as income tax are supported by TAP, the information will automatically become available.
Accountants and payroll providers will need to obtain Third Party Access, which will allow them to perform certain functions and access certain accounts on behalf of their clients. They will then be able to make payments, view accounts and file original and amended returns.
Both groups will follow the same conversion process and adhere to the same deadline. They can preregister to request an authorization code beginning Aug. 11.
