The unclaimed property (UP) community will convene in Las Vegas starting Sunday, March 10 for the 2024 Unclaimed Property Professionals Organization (UPPO) Annual Conference. Running until Wednesday, March 13, approximately 600 people will descend upon the Planet Hollywood hotel for three and a half days of learning, networking and sharing of ideas. According to UPPO, the “conference integrates networking and premier education into every aspect of the agenda, providing attendees with the information and connections needed to minimize their companies’ risk, and achieve and sustain compliance with unclaimed property laws and regulations.”

Here are five events to look forward to during the conference:

1. Diverse UPPO Annual Conference agenda

The UPPO annual conference offers a jam-packed learning agenda covering all unclaimed property issues from the ABCs of UP to VDA expectations. The agenda appeals to unclaimed property professionals at all levels as there are four learning tracks: Basic, Intermediate, Advanced and Special Focus.

2. Expert presentations

Don’t miss the experts from Sovos who will be presenting on a variety of topics. On Monday, March 11, Sovos experts will be leading the discussion for two industry breakout sessions.  At 1 pm, Paola Narez, Senior Consulting Manager, will facilitate the Property and Casualty Insurance Breakout session. At the same time, Tony McDowell, Consulting Manager, will be leading the Life Insurance breakout session.  At 3:45 pm, on the same day, Brian McCarthy, Senior Consulting Manager, will be leading a session called Bankrolling – Issues with Accounts Held by Banks and Brokers. On March 12 at 8 a.m., Ann Fulmer, Director of Consulting Services will present “Raising the Stakes – Virtual Currency.”  And concurrently at 1:00, I will be discussing the Intersection with Unclaimed Property Law and Laurie Andrews, Principal Consulting Director, will be presenting “What’s in the Vault? – Tangible Property.

3. Scholarship program

UPPO’s scholarship program was created to financially assist members and members’ families to continue their education in college or vocational school programs. After the Monday session ends, join the fun at this year’s scholarship program event from 5-6 p.m. This year will feature the magic of Richard Benninghoff, who will delight attendees with a variety of fun tricks. It’s sure to be a great time and a lot of laughs.

4. All-conference event

Don’t miss the all-conference event at the Planet Hollywood Pool Deck, overlooking the bustling Las Vegas Strip. Enjoy dinner, drinks and a good time while mingling with conference attendees and taking in world class exhibitions. The event takes place Tuesday, March 12, from 6:30 – 10 p.m.

5. Networking at the UPPO Annual Conference

Many key influencers in unclaimed property will be attending the UPPO annual conference, which is why attendees should take advantage of the endless networking opportunities. Additionally, do not miss the industry breakout sessions where you can informally and openly converse with unclaimed property professionals in your industry. It is always helpful to hear how other companies are handling the same issues you may be encountering.

The Sovos unclaimed property team heads to the UPPO Annual Conference every year, and we’re looking forward to continuing that tradition this year. Be sure to visit us at booths 109 and 111.
